Brandon Rutter is an entertainment attorney with a focus on the music and theater industries, as well as a corporate transactional attorney and outside general counsel. He currently owns and operates Brandon Rutter Law LLC, a solo law practice based in Jersey City, NJ.
Brandon believes that the best advice comes from someone who has been there, done that. He has been involved in the music industry for more than twenty years, primarily as a musician and performer. He earned his chops as a bass player for dozens of musical theater productions and in a Philly-area cover band, and as a singer in groups such as the world-renowned Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale. Brandon continues to perform regularly in the NYC-based semi-professional a cappella group The Current.
As a music attorney, Brandon represents both the creative and business sides of the industry. He has ample experience working with songwriters, composers, artists, and producers, as well as record labels, sync agencies, and musical theater productions. Brandon feels that creative thinking is paramount in today’s rapidly changing music industry and enjoys being able to draw from his wide-ranging experience.
In addition to his skills as a musician and attorney, Brandon earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Industry at Drexel University, making him the complete package when providing insight and advice for the music industry. Brandon worked for MAD Dragon records, as an artist manager, and performed in hundreds of shows and productions.
Brandon also has significant experience in the tech industry, having previously worked as a product analyst at a financial software company. He finds that his tech experience fits in well with a music industry that is increasingly reliant on tech platforms and companies. Brandon can provide valuable insight into the legal and business implications of generative AI and blockchain applications such as NFTs.
Brandon spends his spare time with his wife Danielle and his daughter Evelyn, looking forward to one day starting a family band.
