Daniel Knox is a seasoned litigator whose practice focuses on complex commercial, business and real estate disputes. With approximately 15 years of litigation experience, Daniel represents businesses, property owners, shareholders, executives, cooperative and condominium boards, landlords and other stakeholders in New York state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
Daniel handles a broad range of commercial disputes, including breach of contract claims, shareholder and partnership disputes, business divorces, commercial lease disputes, fraud and fiduciary-duty claims, employment litigation and other contested business matters. His practice includes seeking and defending against temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions where immediate judicial relief is necessary to protect a client’s business or property interests.
Daniel also has extensive experience in real estate litigation, with particular depth in New York cooperative and condominium matters. He regularly advises and represents boards, shareholders, unit owners, landlords and property owners in disputes involving corporate governance, proprietary leases and bylaws, building operations, alterations and access, nuisance claims, defaults and lease terminations, construction issues and other complex ownership and management disputes.
Before joining Romano Law, Daniel founded and led Knox Law Group, P.C., a New York City boutique litigation firm focused on commercial and real estate disputes. His experience running his own firm informs his approach to litigation: he evaluates disputes not simply as legal problems, but in light of their broader business, financial and practical consequences. Daniel works closely with clients to identify their objectives early, develop leverage efficiently and determine whether those objectives are best achieved through litigation, negotiation, mediation or arbitration.
Daniel also has significant appellate experience. He has successfully argued appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court. He represents clients throughout the litigation process, from pre-suit strategy and emergency applications through discovery, dispositive motions, trial preparation and appeal.
